**From – City Government of Commerce City’s Post:
Good Afternoon Commerce City,
We know there are plenty of questions about road conditions on Highway 2 and 96th Avenue after the unusually heavy rains and flooding that occurred last week, especially with the traffic conditions those closures have created on 104th Avenue and elsewhere.
Our Public Works staff is hard at work assessing the water damage to these roadways, with a primary goal of safety for the traveling public. Both roads have experienced washouts along the shoulder that can affect the structural integrity of the road edge, so repairs are required before some areas can be fully reopened.
Here are the latest updates on both roads:
E. 96th Ave. closed, Eagle Creek Pkwy to Chambers Rd.
Closure will remain in place through at least June 1 (possibly longer) until extensive damage can be repaired. Alternate routes: 104th and 120th avenues
Hwy 2 lane closures, 96th to 104th avenues
While the middle lanes reopened last Saturday, the outside lanes remain closed due to shoulder damage. Staff hopes to reopen the northbound outside lane next week, but the southbound outside lane will likely be 2-3 weeks.
We will provide more updates as we have more information, and we appreciate your patience and use of alternate routes when necessary.

Wouldn’t this be a good time to widen and improve 96th? It’s overloaded with DIA traffic and the area to the north is extremely busy with new housing and lots of people moving in. The road needed expanding 20 years ago. It’s time to get it done.
