Commerce City, CO — Families in Commerce City North now have a new option for their children’s education with the official opening of Capstone Academy, a tuition-free charter school serving grades K–6 for the 2025–26 school year. The school will add grades over time until it reaches full K–8 capacity, giving local students more opportunities to learn close to home.

A New Choice for a Growing Community

Capstone Academy is located at E 88th Avenue & Telluride Street and is part of the National Heritage Academies (NHA) network, which operates more than 100 schools nationwide. NHA also manages Landmark Academy at Reunion, one of the most popular schools in the region. Landmark has been praised for its strong academics, consistent enrollment, and its unique balance of character education with rigorous instruction — and Capstone is aiming to build on that same reputation for excellence.

A Vision with Moral Focus

Like Landmark, Capstone will integrate the Moral Focus™ program into its daily curriculum. Students won’t just study math, reading, and science — they’ll also learn values such as respect, integrity, and perseverance. At the school’s ribbon cutting, Board President Lewis Ortiz and NHA founder J.C. Huizenga emphasized that Capstone represents a long-term investment in Commerce City North.

Enrollment and Lottery Details

Although classes began on August 13, 2025, Capstone Academy is still accepting applications for grades K–6. Enrollment is open to all families, but if applications exceed available seats, a lottery system will determine placement.
