In October 2021, Nativity Lutheran Church welcomed a new Pastor – and with that, new hope for the future.
Pastor Will Johnson loves gardening, running, board games, and all things pirates. He grew up in western Washington State and moved to Colorado in 2018. His love of learning leads him to an eclectic variety of subjects, including economics, social-psychology, ecology, and empowering followers of Christ. Pastor Will graduated from Luther Seminary in Minnesota with a Master of Divinity Degree. After seminary, he and his wife spent a year in South Africa, Cameroon, and western Europe studying preaching and the future of the church. He then served as a pastor in Glendive, Montana, and Broomfield, Colorado, before being called to Nativity Lutheran Church.
Nativity Lutheran Church was first started in 1963, and moved to our current building on 104th and Revere in the late 90’s. We are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). We are a church where all are welcome – and for us, all means all. Our sunday worship is at 9:30 a.m. We celebrate the meal of Communion each week – and again, all are welcome. Sunday School and a nursery are available during worship. We have Bible study each Thursday at 10:30 a.m., in person at church (except for holidays). Our monthly evening Bible study meets on the second Tuesday at 6:30pm.
Why do we call ourselves “Nativity”? Because the birth of Jesus – the “nativity” – is where we find deep hope. As followers of Jesus, we are constantly being born, and re-born, re-created to love God and our neighbors with the joy the shepherds experienced at Jesus’ birth.
What’s a “Lutheran”? We are a church that walks by faith, trusting God’s promise to be with us always. We proclaim Jesus Christ crucified and raised from the dead for the life of the world. The term “Lutheran” comes from Martin Luther, a 16th-century German monk who protested the way the church at the time did things, and sought to reform how church is done and how we have relationship with God. We live a liberated, confident, and generous faith, empowered by the Holy Spirit.
What’s a “Church”? Church is a group of people who come together for support, to deepen faith, and to praise God. We aren’t a social club. We aren’t a place to just get your faith fill-up on Sunday mornings. We are an intentional, vulnerable, authentic community that seeks to praise God, serve our neighbors, and continually grow in faith and relationship.
All are welcome – come and check us out!
