Police are investigating a shooting that may involve high school students in Brighton. Police already have suspects in custody.

The shooting happened in the area of South 9th Avenue and Bush Street, police said in a 1:09 p.m. Wednesday tweet. The shooting scene is a couple of blocks north of Brighton High School. One victim was taken to a hospital.
Suspects are in custody in the area of East 120th Avenue and Salem Street, police said. The area where suspects were apprehended is just south of Prairie View High School, which has been placed on lockdown.
“Police are investigating possible student involvement” in the shooting, according to a department tweet.
Other schools in the area, including Brighton High School, Vikan Middle School, Prairie View High and Middle School, South, Southeast Elementary schools, I&O, Bright Beginnings, Northeast Elementary, Overland Trail, Thimmig Elementary, and Henderson Elementary schools, were placed on secure status out of caution.

Police ask people to avoid both the scene of the shooting and the arrests if possible.
