Beginning Monday, Aug. 28, the BNSF railroad crossing at E. 96th Avenue and Highway 2 will be closed in both directions for repair work to the crossing.
The project is expected to last about one week, with a targeted reopening date of Saturday, Sept. 2 (schedule is subject to change). Detour routes will be in place along E. 104th Avenue and Havana Street, utilizing Highway 2 for northbound traffic. Obey all road signs and watch for workers.
For questions about this project specifically, contact Nathan Drake with RoadSafe Traffic Systems at 316-251-7315.
Submit feedback about railroad crossings and blockages to the railroad company
The city does not have regulatory power over the operations of the railroad companies operating in the city, so we encourage residents to contact them directly with complaints to make them aware of traffic issues and other concerns. We hope that the frequency of these resident complaints will help spur additional action from the Federal Railroad Administration to help alleviate these issues as the city continues to advocate for solutions. Contact BNSF Railway at 800-832-5452, option 3 or Union Pacific Railroad at 402-544-5000.
